PROF. DR. ŞEVKİ ERDEM

Şevki Erdem was born in Bayramiç district of Çanakkale and completed his primary, secondary, and high school education in Çanakkale. In 1984, he started his medical education at Erzurum Atatürk University Faculty of Medicine and graduated in 1990 with the title of medical doctor. Immediately after graduation, he went to Diyarbakır for compulsory service. In 1991, he went to Kayseri and started his specialization in orthopedics at Erciyes University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology. He completed his specialization in 1996 and became a specialist.

In 1997, he was appointed as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology of Erciyes University Faculty of Medicine. In 1998, he started performing spine surgeries at the same university and became an Associate Professor in 2004 and a Professor in 2009.

In 2012, Prof. Dr. Şevki Erdem started to continue his work at Istanbul Haydarpaşa Numune Training and Research Hospital. Throughout these processes, he has observed in many centers abroad to increase his knowledge and experience in spinal surgery and participated in education and meetings.

With all the experience and knowledge he gained, the institution he worked for has become a center for spinal surgery practice and education. While taking on the operations of many scoliosis patients waiting for treatment in Turkey, he has made significant contributions to the training of colleagues who will perform such vital surgeries. He has played an effective role in the training of spinal surgeons and raising awareness in various healthcare institutions with the presentations and education he gave at national and international congresses.

Since 1997, Prof. Dr. Şevki Erdem, who has treated thousands of people with spinal deformities and other spinal disorders, was awarded “Doctor of the Year” by the Ministry of Health in 2013 for his surgeries, education, and social responsibility projects.

In 2016, he founded and became the chairman of eS-Camp Scoliosis and Kyphosis Therapy Camp, which offers alternative therapies such as physiotherapy, psychotherapy, breathing, yoga, and thought techniques for the treatment of spinal disorders.

He continued his work at the Spinal Surgery Department, which he also founded, at Emsey Hospital.

Most recently, Prof. Erdem has been working at the Orthopedics and Traumatology Department of Haydarpaşa Numune Training and Research Hospital since 2019, in order to be able to transfer his work to future generations, doctors and medical students, to sign new studies with them and to provide services more easily to all citizens.

Prof. Dr Şevki Erdem has been working at Kozyatagi Central Hospital as of 2024.
